Workshop Taught by Larry & Maggie Hess:
Larry Hess has been training horses full time since 1982. He learned from the best, having taken instruction from Ray Hunt, Buck Brannaman, Pat Parelli and others. Larry and his wife, Maggie, have trained weanlings, yearlings, race horses, barrel horses, cutting horses, trail horses and pleasure riding horses, their owners and riders for over 25 years. They have conducted beginner to advanced workshops, seminars, clinics and courses on training and horsemanship for thousands of students in Arizona, California, Colorado, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Wisconsin and Wyoming, including 3 years as instructors for the Horse Science Program at Kirkwood Community College. They work with an average of 150—200 horses a year.
“Larry uses all natural techniques in his training. He has the ability to ‘read’ a horse and then let you know why a horse is acting the way it is. Larry has the talent to teach to your level, whatever that may be, whether you are a novice with horses, or have been around them all your life. He not only teaches the horse, but the rider also, and has fun doing it.” Craig Brockman
“Larry and Maggie Hess are not as well known as Ray Hunt, Pat Parelli, Buck Brannaman, and Monte Roberts who are widely recognized as experts in non-cruel, instinctive-behavior based horse training, but the results they achieve with their horses and the people they teach are comparable.” Dr. Ken Marlborough
“I have worked at some of the most prestigious training and breeding facilities known. There are several times I have contacted Larry Hess for advice and guidance. Larry is a horseman with a true sense of awareness and an eye for understanding the way a horse thinks and feels. It may take a day or two to get to know this humble gentle man, but once you do, you know him, trust him, and love him for life.” Ann Luebbers — Broken J Lazy A Ranch
